Romania is a very religious country.
I set my my base camp at the Village Hotel, in Breb, and from there drove to Sapanta and the Merry Cemetery. A unique cemetery, where the memory of the loved departed ones is honoured in a "merry" fashion.
What's so merry about death and a cemetery? Death of this body is inevitable. The way it is remembered can vary. In Romania, at the Merry Cemetery, they have found a very sound way to honour the memory of the departed ones with a painted image that will tell us about the person, likes and dislikes, what he or she was known for, the way in which he or she lived or died. There are many locals and tourists visiting the cemetery which makes the energy much lighter.
